Sponsors of Sustainability Strategy Award
ABP is the UK’s leading ports group. We proudly serve our customers and our communities in the pursuit of our ambitious missions which are ‘Keeping Britain Trading’ and ‘Enabling the Energy Transition’. These are underpinned by a strong commitment to safety, sustainability and our people.
Our network of 21 ports handles ~ one quarter of the UK’s seaborne trade, and ~ £157 billion of UK trade annually. Our ports include Immingham, the UK’s largest port by tonnage, and Southampton, the nation’s number one export port, handling £40 billion of UK exports each year.
ABP is an essential partner for the Offshore Wind industry, providing Operations and Maintenance (O&M) for over 50% of the sector’s activity, as well as building infrastructure in facilities like Green Port Hull, a joint investment with SGRE, the largest Offshore Wind blade manufacturer, and LEEF (Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility).
With the support of its customers, ABP’s East Anglian ports of King’s Lynn, Lowestoft and Ipswich contribute a total of £360 million to the UK economy every year, supporting 3,700 jobs in the region and 5,300 jobs nationally.
ABP is looking for businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability through innovative and impactful strategies. We hope to see entries that have an emphasis on long-term planning and measurable outcomes. We’re particularly interested in businesses that integrate sustainability into their core operations, engage with local communities, and are supporting the energy transition.
Entering the Sustainability Strategy Award is a valuable opportunity for any business because it allows you to showcase your commitment to sustainability and gain recognition for your efforts. It provides a platform to highlight your innovative environmental strategies, strengthen your brand’s reputation, and differentiate yourself from competitors. Winning or being shortlisted can boost visibility within the region and open up networking opportunities with like-minded businesses and stakeholders.
We expect this award to have a significant positive impact on both the winner and the finalists. For the winner, it offers powerful recognition of their leadership in sustainability, which can enhance their credibility, attract new customers, and even open doors to partnerships or investment opportunities. It also sets a benchmark within their industry, positioning them as a role model for other businesses to follow. For all finalists, the recognition highlights their achievements and provides them with a platform to raise awareness of their sustainability initiatives.
Collaboration is at the centre of all solutions to the climate challenge. No company, NGP or government agency can drive the agenda alone. Evidence of stakeholder collaboration will make for a stronger entry because it demonstrates that a business’s sustainability strategy is not only internally driven but also widely supported and impactful. Working together will help to speed up the planning process for the development of new energy infrastructure. Stakeholder collaboration highlights a business’s ability to influence and lead beyond its own operations, fostering a culture of sustainability that reaches into its wider network, which is crucial for long-term success.
The sustainability strategies that are likely to impress the most are those that are both ambitious and actionable, with clear, measurable outcomes. We’re looking for strategies that go beyond compliance, showing innovation in areas such as carbon reduction and renewable energy integration. Strategies that demonstrate long-term commitment, with clear goals for continuous improvement, will stand out. We’re particularly impressed by those that incorporate cutting-edge technologies, involve cross-sector collaboration, and focus on creating a positive impact not just for the business, but also for the wider community and environment.

National Grid sits at the heart of Britain’s energy system. The individual companies in our group run the networks and infrastructure that connect millions of people to the electricity they use every day.
Our regulated businesses own and develop the high voltage electricity transmission (ET) network in England and Wales, and the electricity distribution (ED) network in the Midlands, South West England and South Wales. Operating separately from these core regulated units, National Grid Ventures (NGV) focusses on competitive markets, investing in energy projects, technologies and partnerships such as electricity interconnectors.
We bring energy to life, with an ambition to serve our customers well, support the communities in which we operate, and make possible a clean, affordable and resilient energy network of the future.

Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm will make a significant contribution toward UK energy security and is a cornerstone of the UK government’s climate and clean energy targets.
Hornsea 3 will deliver up to £8. 5 billion to the local, national and global economy through supply chain investment and the creation of thousands of high-skilled jobs during both construction and decades of operation and maintenance.
Located 120 km off the Norfolk coast and 160 km off the Yorkshire coast, it will be Ørsted’s third gigawatt-scale project in the Hornsea zone which we’ve been developing since 2015.
Ørsted is proud to invest in the communities in which we build and work. We’ve launched our Hornsea 3 Community Benefit Fund which commits £7 million to projects developed by and for the benefit of the community in North Norfolk and areas of Suffolk. We’re also working with local communities to ensure we deliver the project in a low-impact way that protects and restores nature both onshore and offshore.
Globally, Ørsted is the market leader in offshore wind and was the first energy company in the world to have its science-based net-zero emissions target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We pioneered the world’s first offshore wind farm in Denmark in 1991 and now we’re building the biggest, Hornsea 3, which at 2.9GW will power 3.3m UK homes.
